For our first meeting of the school year, EmpowHerX held a special meeting where we collaborated with Invest in Her to promote financial literacy with the young women of our organization! Invest in Her presented a powerpoint loaded with valuable information. EmpowHerX learned how to save, budget, invest, and so much more! We even learned the difference between a job and internship, how to apply for either, and how to behave professionally in an interview. The skills Invest in Her so graciously provided us with will help us in our early adulthood and beyond!! A special thanks to Neha and the whole Invest in Her Team!
In addition, thank you to all who attended our first meeting of the year, and we look forward to seeing you again in September! We are so excited for what the EmpowHerX Committee Chairs/Co-Chairs have planned for their meeting this year!
Out next meeting is scheduled for September 18th! More information regarding the meeting will be sent out via email closer to the 18th.
In this bonus meeting that doubled as our last meeting of the 2021-2022 school year, we had a workshop on proper business etiquette. We learned how to properly present ourselves, how to meet and introduce people, and interview tips!
This year, we were fortunate enough to meet with and ask questions to the Managing Director of UBS. She taught us how to stay organized, how to be leaders, and how to succeed in the workplace and in life. She also shared her tips on how to work your way up as a woman in a male-dominated field.
Our Cultural Committee hosted their meeting at the Heard Museum. We learned so much about Arizona history and Native American culture and significance. We also saw so many southwest-inspired works of art, pottery, sculptures, and more!
Our Career Committee brought us to Pure Barre Phoenix, where we were able to do a barre class with the company's founder. We heard how she began her business and the challenges she faced being a woman in her field.
For our self-defense meeting, we did a self-defense class at DMA Tai Chi Fitness. We learned how to protect ourselves and how to escape an attack!
A GCU Admissions Officer came in to talk to EmpowHerX about college financing, scholarships, investing, and all things financial literacy!
In August of 2021, EmpowHerX hosted a summer party to get members excited for the upcoming year, as well as attract new members to the organization. We discussed the upcoming year, played games, and of course, ate Canes! The party was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who came! We are so excited to start meetings for this year!
For our final meeting of the school year, EmpowHerX held a special meeting and potluck in honor of our seniors! Each member volunteered to bring a sweet treat or a breakfast bite, making for a wonderful end-of-the-year feast. While enjoying the goodies, we discussed the highlights of the year and ways in which we could improve moving forward. Each senior also shared a final piece of advice with the younger members based on their college-planning experience. Alexandra and Claira concluded the session by awarding each member with an EmpowHerX "diploma" containing motivational stickers and a bracelet.
Thank you to all who have supported EmpowHerX this past year, and we look forward to seeing you again in the fall! Have a great summer!

On March 14th, our gals at EmpowHerX embraced their fighting spirit with an introductory course taught by Gracie Jiu Jitsu Phoenix. From awareness training to physical self defense, we learned how to escape various dangerous situations quickly and effectively. From defending against wrist grabbing to choking, the expertise of Gracie Jiu Jitsu's instructors armed us with life-saving tips and techniques.

On February 7th, we met in-person for the first time (social distanced style) at the Japanese Friendship Garden. We began our meeting with an ice-breaker, sharing a piece of information from each of our own family's cultures. We then enjoyed Japanese mochi and other snacks while listening to a Japanese language lesson by Alexandra. She shared basic greetings in Japanese and taught us how to introduce ourselves.
We then took a self-guided tour through the gorgeous gardens while talking and enjoying the beautiful day as well as all that the garden has to offer. We were so excited to finally meet in-person!
A huge thank you to our Cultural Committee and Alexandra for a wildly successful meeting!
Get ready for our next meeting on March 14th, look out for additional information to come!
On December 6th, EmpowHerX had the honor of hearing from three incredible women who have succeeded in various careers: Air Force, Advocacy, Business Entrepreneurship, and Medicine. Each speaker gave a brief description of their daily life in their respective fields, explained how they came to their position, and shared advice with aspiring female leaders. This allowed our young women to witness their limitless career possibilities and inspired them to pursue their passions.
