The career committee helps girls explore careers they are familiar with and introduces ones they never imagined, particularly for women. The committee will invite female leaders in a wide variety of occupations to educate girls about careers and how to successfully navigate the working world. Additionally, girls will learn important skills in networking, resume building, and negotiation, along with more about gender inequality and the pay gap.
Self defense training develops confidence and comfort whether navigating in new environments, or familiar places. The self defense committee focuses on environmental awareness, personal protection skills, avoiding dangerous situations, and recognizing as well as addressing sexual harassment issues that girls may face in college and at work.
When girls understand money, they become stronger and more empowered. The finance committee teaches girls how to take control of one’s financial life and educates them with skills on money knowledge, including money management, budgeting, saving vs. investing, credit scores, and college financing.
The cultural committee strives to instill global awareness and educate girls on culturally sensitive topics. The committee plans to bring in speakers from different ethnic backgrounds to share their roots, food, dress, art, music, and customs.
Women must balance strength with style to lead effectively and to avoid derogatory labels. The leadership committee focuses on leadership skills and strategies in areas of effective communication, negotiation, leading peers and teams, addressing conflict, and developing an inclusive environment.
Getting into college is only half the equation, settling in and thriving on a college campus requires other skills and strengths. The life skills committee focuses on leading an independent life in college, which may involve safely navigating social events, time management and organizational skills, homesickness, advocating on one’s own behalf, and adjusting to a new environment.
